Gym Bunny Rue

Alternative title : I officially suck at pull ups … I’m more likely to bust a blood vessel in my noggin a la “Stressed Eric” than manage one of those! Yet here I am, scheduled in for 3 gym session a week, in which pull ups are involved (so says my training plan) … Or rather, holding onto the bars, legs kicking about in effort and trying to move upwards while I make an odd “meeeeehhhhhhhhh” sound but not really accomplishing much more than like a centimetre! Urgh! 

Since losing both my dad and my uncle in the space of 6 months my brain has suddenly become focused on the fact that I haven’t been taking particularly good care of my own health … Skip a thyroid tablet, eh I’ll remember tomorrow! (Not the best of ideas given how forgetful I can be in the mornings). Skip a meal, eh I’ll eat later! (Or not). Skip meditation, eh I’ll be fine I’m not that stressed! (While chewing my way through all my nails … Well, except toe nails, not quite as flexible anymore what with skipping some Yoga classes).

Utthan Pristhasana

Alternative title : We all have that one Yoga pose that we look at and think “ah shit the bed, that ain’t gonna happen with my inflexible ass”, that one Yoga pose that will warrant a gold medal and a bus parade through your home town, oh aye THAT Yoga pose … Sigh, who am I kidding, I look at most Yoga poses like that! But this is the tale of Utthan Pristhasana (aka, Lizard Pose)

Ever since I saw one of my fellow Yoga students absolutely nail Utthan Pristhasana I have been determined to master it … Basically it looks like a lunge but your forearms are on the ground (check out the pic in the link above to really get a feel for it) – but while it may look relatively simple, oh my word, it’s definitely one to be careful of hip wise! Geez!

C25K Week 4!

Alternative title: Because nothing says “get your arse out of bed!” like knowing someone is waiting for you to start running … At 6am … In the cold. Ugh! I’m pretty sure not even the birds are awake at that hour as I only really heard them start their tweeting an hour later while I attempted to warm up in a shower set to ‘hotter than the sun’.  

Week 4 has been a major milestone for me, not only did my running partner and I actually reach 5K while doing the week 4 intervals (I know right?! I’m thrilled!) … But I also managed to control my Anxiety long enough to go running with someone new (I met D the morning of the run – she’s a friend of a friend), on a route I didn’t know, for a time period longer than intended.

I not only stepped out of my comfort zone … But I also legged it for a couple of miles from there too!

C25k Week 3!

Alternative title: At 5:15am my alarm jolts into life, at 5:30am I’m chugging a protein shake, at 5:40am I’m arguing with a sports bra and at 6am I’m running with the group … The cold air caused my lungs to shriek, my body wondering what the hell it was now encountering, every part of me wants to stop, but we trudge on … With only street lights to guide us. 

“I’m going to be sick” my stomach muttered.

“Why aren’t we still sleeping?! This is inhumane!” screamed my brain.

“It’ll do us good” I murmured between heaving breaths, only half convinced.

“I’m telling you I’m going to barf” my stomach whinged.

“Dude …” my brain said with disdain “I want to be adopted”
