Niralamba Sarvangasana

Alternative title : Quite frankly it sounds like something I should see my GP about getting some cream for … In actual fact, it just means “Unsupported Shoulder stand”. Yes folks, I’m talking yet another Yoga Milestone

As I’ve mentioned in previous posts (mostly my Pole Dancing ones) I have a bit of a fear of Inversions … And like all good fears, it’s amazing to defeat them! For many months I have been doing shoulder stands as part of my regular Ashtanga class, trying to focus on core strength, balance and breathing (and yes, my boobs are still trying to kill me). Learning to trust myself in that pose, learning that it’s ok to fall out of it and try again but just to take it slow and be patient.

This week I got myself into Salamba Sarvangasana (supported shoulder stand) and then, with a “holy shit” … I released my arms.

Let’s talk Hypothyroidism

Alternative title: I didn’t think I’d be writing another one of these after my “Anxiety is not a fad diet” post. But, alas, here we go again …

“I want to be Hypothyroid” I heard the voice mutter as the taps started running.

“Oh aye?” came a second voice accompanied by the tearing of paper towels.

“Definitely! Hypothyroidism makes you lose a ton of weight! And I could do with losing a bit of this I’m carrying around … Honestly this diet just isn’t working for me, been trying to lose these last 4 pounds for yonks but if I was Hypothyroid … ”

Mid-pee I knew something needed to be said … Yes right there, in the office bathroom.

“You’ve mixed up the illnesses” I began, voice echoing from the cubicle “Hypothyroidism can make it difficult to lose weight, Hyperthyroidism can result in weight loss. But I’m not sure why -“.

“- Oh … Right …” She cheerily shrilled before “I guess I’d rather be Hyperthyroid then!”

Merry Christmas Brain

Alternative title: On the 23rd day of Christmas the NHS gave to me, a meeting with a PWP!

Quite frankly taking your brain to speak to the mental health team (in this case, a Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner) is a lot like taking your pet to the vets. There’s all the excitement of an adventure, the bouncing around in the car, the barking along to East 17’s “Stay Another Day” … It’s all perfectly fine, all very friendly, until it can see the building – then the penny drops and all hell breaks loose as it creates a dirty protest while lying on the floor refusing to budge any further and tantruming over a thermometer being stuck up it’s butt … Ok so the last bit applies to pets only but you get my point.

Two apples a day???…

Alternative title: I’m pretty sure that a small number of the GP’s in this country got their medical degrees from Christmas crackers…

As I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, my migraines have been kicking my ass…Well, technically they have been kicking my brain…against my skull…multiple times a bloody month! That combined with fatigue so strong that I could fall asleep in a Spinning Class was causing me concern. So I nipped to see my GP. Their diagnosis was that the fatigue I was experiencing was causing a surge in the regularity of the migraines and that the cause of the fatigue was…Well…Nothing in particular.

Apparently people just get tired.

Advice as bloody useful as a chocolate freaking fireguard in the middle of Winter!
