Alternative title: Most people celebrate by getting shit-faced as a result of indulging in various fine ales or wines in a box or cheap-ass ciders…Me, oh no, I opt for cacao powder, almond butter and fruit…What the hell is wrong with me?!
As the ink dried on the paperwork signifying my change from temporary office monkey to permanent I was left with my head in the clouds. Finally I have some financial security…and a pension too (not that I’ll ever get to use it like, but still, at least I can say I have a pension like the proper grown up I’m supposed to be).
“Oooo feeling like a real adult now?” my brain asked.
“Actually…Is it too late to eat a box or two of Atomic Fireballs and climb a couple of trees?” I mutter back.
“We’ll have to wait for our shift to end first though”
Which leads me to this moment, in which I’m listening to Lindsey Sterling performing ‘Phantom of the Opera‘ while drinking a chocolatey smoothie and contemplating my impending birthday…I probably won’t be spending that day climbing trees, but I intend to conquer a couple of fells in the Lakes.
If, like me, you feel the need for choc when celebrating here is the recipe for this nutty, chocolately delight!
2 bananas (as I said in my last choccy smoothie recipe, if you want a thicker smoothie add more bananas or some oats!).
1 tbsp almond butter (haven’t used this stuff in a while!).
2-3 tsp Raw Cacao (I’m using Bioglan Raw Organic 100% Cacao Powder…again. I used 3 tsp purely because I love chocolate so bad).
380ml liquid (I picked water…purely for convenience this time as I was all out of oat milk – will be trying this again with milk as I suspect it will give it a creamier texture).
Chuck all the ingredients into a jug, blitz and enjoy! The cacao and strawberry vye for main taste but compliment each other, the almond butter is subtle…lovely.
I should seriously thank the gods for almond butter…I’ve mentioned before that I am not really a nut-lover (ok yeah, if you giggled at that statement then we are probably going to get along famously!), but I was talked into trying almond butter and my word…It was a whole new love affair! Thick, creamy and nutty (obviously). Sigh.
Sorry, was raiding the fridge for the jar…Yes I’m using a teaspoon, I’m not an animal you know!
Right, let’s talk about almonds for a sec; they are brimming with Vitamin E, Calcium, Phosphorus, Magnesium, the B Vitamins (Riboflavin, Niacin, Thiamine, Folate and B6), Potassium, Polyunsaturated and Monounsaturated fats and – deep breath – Phytosterols.
Gorgeous inside and out it seems!
How many of you are nutty about almonds?
