Chocolate and Chia Seed Energy Bites

Alternative title: My sweet tooth has been throwing a right hissy fit recently to the point that the mere sight of carrot sticks makes me want to throw a major temper tantrum of my own.


“Is that chocolate?!” My brain shrieked.

“Is that chocolate?!” My sweet tooth shrieked.

“Yes it’s chocolate” I shrieked as the lid of the tub fell onto the counter-top, a light dusting of cocoa powder now covered just about every surface between my kitchen and the backside of the country. Happens every darned time!

“Get a spoon…Any spoon will do…” My brain yelled.

“Stuff the spoon, get a ladle! I don’t care if there is mushroom soup on it just get the ruddy ladle!” My sweet tooth yelled back.

I seriously need to separate those two…

My Almond Butter and Chia Seed Energy Bites lasted all of two days and while the human guinea pigs liked the taste of them I was left craving a chocolatey version. So after throwing a mini wobbler over the huge assortment of overly sweetened cocoa powders currently on sale I settled on a tub that had just one ingredient on the list and headed to the kitchen to make a mess.


Choc and Chia Seed


No Bake! (No excuses folks…Easy as).

Makes 9

1 x cup of rolled oats

3 1/2 tbsp Almond Butter (I used Meridian again….I fear I have an obsession with this shit, damn you Meridian with your gorgeous crunchy almond goodness).

1 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder (I used Bournville…Because the tub didn’t have an ingredients list as long as my arm).

1 1/2 tbsp honey

1 tbsp Chia Seeds

Choc and Chia Seed Ingredients

I know what you’re thinking and trust me when I say looks can be deceiving…Really, really.

Throw all the ingredients in a bowl and combine…

I wanted to eat this mix straight out of the bowl!

Roll the mix into balls…

As you can see my ball rolling skills leave a lot to be desired…What are you giggling at?


Chill in the fridge for a few hours and enjoy!

I think the next time I make this mix I’ll add some cherry pieces to it…So folks, what are your favourite healthy snacks to snaffle pre-exercise? In fact, what are your favourite healthy sweet-tooth appeasing snacks?

  1. I will be making these little balls of yum this weekend- haven’t used oats before so I can’t wait to see what they’re like! I use the raw cacao powder instead of bourneville X

      I searched everywhere for raw cacao in the shops and was going to order some online…BUT, today all my raw cacao dreams came true as my local health shop finally had some (grabbed the last bag on the shelf like a woman possessed)!!! So I can try these bad boys out with that instead of cocoa powder! 😀 x

      • Ooh wow! How much did it cost you? I got mine from Tesco for £7. Which I think is standard :-S

          £7 too…Bioglan Raw Cacao from Holland and Barrett…That said though, the amount you use compared to cocoa powder is very different (I was quite surprised)!

  2. I’m not a huge fan of oats, especially unbaked oats..but have to admit, these do look yummy 🙂

      I think I’ve gone a little oat obsessed since I started having porridge for breakfast most days…Oops!
