Alternative title : Because sometimes a mug of hot ginger tea makes everything ok with the world.
It’s been pointed out to me recently that I’m constantly on the go, be it Yoga classes, or Weights/Calisthenics, or Therapy sessions, or just visiting somewhere new … I seem to be unable to sit still! Once of a time I would have been content to spend time in my own company but recently my Mental Health hasn’t been easy to deal with and I’ve found myself needing more and more distractions. Which has resulted in burn out … Honestly, it’s catch-22 sometimes and a total learning curve with regards to what my body and mind need at any given moment.
So while feeling worse for wear in the midst of a lurgy bug (temperature all over the shop!) I took a few days out to just sit in front of the TV, recuperate and drink a lot of rejuvenating ginger tea.
You see, Ginger root (Zingiber officinale) is an amazing digestive aid, it contains anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties, it has a natural calming effect, and is chock-full of anti-oxidants and Vitamin C (to kick any lurgy bug’s ass! Yay for the immunity booster!).
So, here we go :
Ingredients (Makes 2):
2 cups of filtered water.
1 inch piece of ginger root cut into chunky pieces.
2 teaspoons of honey (1 for each cup!) … Though Agave or Maple Syrup would probably work just as well.
Another very simple recipe (easier than my Turmeric Milk one in fact)! Because after a busy day, who wants to be faffing around for half an hour for a warm cuppa?
Chop the ginger into chunks and throw into an infuser, add hot water and steep for ~5 minutes (if you like it strong, obviously leave a little longer).
Pour tea into your favourite cup, add the honey and stir in.
Then sit back and enjoy! I went through the whole 2 cups while watching an episode of “American Horror Story” (this is my go to TV series at the moment … Soooo much love for it!).
