Pea Soup

Alternative title: Pea soup…Not to be mistaken for pee soup…That is something else entirely.

“It’s erm…Very green” my brain ventured.

“It’s pea soup, it’s supposed to be green” I responded.

“Yeah but…It’s very fricking green…” it’s whinging now.

“It’s pea soup…What other colour would you want it to be?” I whinged back.

“Well…I don’t know…Something more interesting…”

“There is nothing wrong with green” I muttered.

“…Like pink or orange or purple or blue or rainbow vomit!”

“…Rainbow what?…In fact don’t answer that, I don’t want to know”.

Can someone tell my brain that there is nothing wrong with green soup darn it!

Serves 4-5

1 tbsp olive oil

500g frozen peas

1 x onion

2 x cloves of garlic

2 x large carrots

2 pints of vegetable stock

Heat the oil in a pan (over a medium heat) and add the sliced onion and carrots…

This onion was one nasty sod…Even when cooking away it was making my eyes water…

Once the onions and carrots have started to soften add the crushed garlic and frozen peas…

Then cook for another 5 minutes…

Frozen peas

Look at all these nutritious little green cretins!

Add the stock and bring to the boil…

Veggies cooking

…It was really at this stage that I stopped bawling like a soft cow at the onion pong…Bloody onions!

Once it has done this reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes.

Then blitz and serve!

Look at that beautiful shade of green…Just look at it! You could paint your house that colour and still not be bored of it…Though your neighbours might think you’re a bit of a dip-stick.

Add a bit a black pepper or fresh chillies for a bit of heat!

This is another soup that I portioned out and froze for a weeks worth of lunches for work…It is definitely helping me stick to a healthier diet! The soup keeps me fuller and less likely to break into the vending machine to rescue a packet of crisps and a chocolate bar.

PS – ‘Fortitude‘ episode 7 tonight folks…Anyone else keeping up with this series? My word, episode 6 was immense!

  1. I love Pea and ham soup but have never tried just pea soup.
My fella has been watching Fortitude and loves it….I need to start watching 🙂 x

‘Fortitude’ is a bit of a slow burner but it’s definitely managed to maintain the tension and intrigue!

I’m a bit odd when it comes to adding ham to pea soup…Reminds me of a watery unpleasant dish I was served as a kid. Don’t think I ever quite got over it! x

  2. Ooh I’m going to try this- might add ham too as pea and ham is yummy 🙂 X
